comp.os.plan9

comp.os.plan9 is a moderated newsgroup for discussion of the Plan 9 operating system and related systems. It's a forum to ask questions and share information about installing, administering, using, and developing the system. Discussion of the original Plan 9 from Bell Labs as well as all forks, derivitives, or otherwise related systems are on topic.

Plan 9 was originally developed by Bell Labs, in the same lab and by many of the same people behind Unix. Thanks to the Plan 9 Foundation, all Plan 9 releases are now available as Open Source under the MIT license.

Moderation on comp.os.plan9 is indended to keep discussion on topic. While it is not in any sense an official project of the Plan 9 Foundation, comp.os.plan9 will be moderated in accordance with the Foundation's Code of Conduct.

Current moderators of the group are Anthony Sorace and Dan Cross. For issues with posting or other questions, please emai comp-os-plan9-admins@9srv.net.

Previously, comp.os.plan9 had been bridged to the 9fans mailing list. Originally this was bi-directional, but degraded to 9fans→comp.os.plan9 over time. This bridge has not been brought back at this time. Mostly this is to let the newsgroup find its own footing and value first. There was also a historical oddity of bridging a moderated newsgroup to an unmoderated mailing list; 9fans has recently become moderated, but only very recently, and it seems worthwhile to give that time to settle before re-evaluating things. This may change in the future if it seems useful.

Of historical interest, ISC has an archive of posts related to the creation of comp.os.plan9, which includes the original call for creation, vote, and charter (note that this will start a download in most browsers).
